PRQ Exteriors · Roofing Products

A roof engineered to take the storm.

FORTIFIED is a stronger, science-based re-roofing standard from the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS). PRQ designs and installs to it — so your roof stays on, and the water stays out, when the weather turns.

The Standard

What is a FORTIFIED roof?

A FORTIFIED roof is built to a voluntary, research-backed standard that helps homes stand up to high winds, hurricanes, hail, and severe thunderstorms. It reinforces the parts of the roof that fail first — the deck, the edges, and the connections — and it works with virtually any roof covering.

What’s Different

Built stronger at every layer

Every FORTIFIED roof goes beyond standard practice in the places that matter most.

Sealed Roof Deck

Deck seams are sealed so that even if the covering blows off, the deck still keeps water out — cutting water intrusion by up to 95%.

Enhanced Deck Attachment

8D ring-shank nails in a tighter pattern nearly double the deck's resistance to wind uplift.

Locked-Down Edges

A wider drip edge and a fully-adhered starter strip stop wind from catching the roof's most vulnerable edge.

Wind & Rain-Resistant Vents

Attic ventilation engineered to keep wind-driven rain out during a storm.

Tested Roof Coverings

Shingles rated to ASTM D3161 Class F or D7158 Class H; metal and tile designed to site-specific wind pressures.

Optional Hail Supplement

Impact-resistant coverings (IBHS “Good/Excellent” or UL 2218 Class 4) for hail-prone regions.

Why It Matters

Roofs don’t fail randomly

They fail in predictable ways — and FORTIFIED is engineered to target each one.

Wind Uplift

High winds pry up roof edges and peel the covering away — the most common way roofs fail.

Water Intrusion

An exposed roof deck can let in the equivalent of nine bathtubs of water per inch of rain.

Hail Damage

Repeated impacts crack coverings and strip protective granules, shortening a roof's life.

Designation Levels

Three levels of protection

FORTIFIED is awarded in three escalating designations, each verified by an independent evaluator.

Level 1

FORTIFIED Roof

The foundation — a stronger, sealed, and locked-down roof system that keeps the roof on and water out.

Level 2

FORTIFIED Silver

Everything in Roof, plus protection for the openings and attached structures that let wind and water into a home.

Level 3

FORTIFIED Gold

The highest level — adds a continuous load path that ties the roof, walls, and foundation together as one system.
